Overview of Class:
This course is designated to educate Inspectors, Investigators, Officers, Chief Officers and others on the theoretical framework for understanding the ethical, sociological, organizational, political, and legal components of community risk reduction, and a methodology for the development of a comprehensive community risk reduction plan.

The goal upon course completion is to provide those individuals with basic knowledge to develop a community risk reduction program. A central part of the course focuses on how to assess and understand what the community needs are and how to effectively campaign for assistance implement the decided action and how to prioritize response.

Instructional Outcomes:

  • Become champions of risk reduction.
  • Develop and meet risk reduction objectives.
  • Identify and develop intervention strategies.
  • Implement a risk reduction program.
  • Review and modify risk reduction programs.
  • Introduction to GIS application within the Fire Service

This course follows the basic requirements for qualifications as a Fire Code Administrator (Fire Marshal) as set forth in the NFPA Fire Code Administrator Program and is based on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1037 Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Marshal.

This course follows the basic requirements for qualification as a Fire Officer as set forth in the NFPA Standard for Fire Officer and is based on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1021 Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications.

Course is designed to be consistent with critical elements of the NFA & Florida BFST Syllabi. This course meets qualification requirements for FO IV & Fire Code Administrator (January 2019 UPDATE).
